Tyler X. Koontz is a director and theater-maker who merges classic storytelling with community-rooted ensemble work. A graduate of the competitive Directing program at UC Santa Barbara, Tyler’s practice is deeply informed by his experience facilitating creative expression among the underrepresented. He has co-led devised theater projects such as The Odyssey Project, working closely with Professor Michael Morgan as both a mentee and collaborator, and The Going Home Project, partnering with fellow facilitators to uplift the voices of at-risk and unhoused youth through performance and original writing. Tyler is passionate about using theater as a tool for empowerment, reflection, and social connection- balancing professional craft with community care. He has directed youth and mainstage productions including Matilda, Little Shop of Horrors, and The Magic Tower, alongside original devised works.
